The Landing Gear are an important supporting component of the semi-trailer. They are mainly used to support the vehicle body during cargo loading and unloading, ensuring the stability of the vehicle.

The Landing Gear Function and Role：

 Support the vehicle body: When the semi-trailer is separated from the tractor for loading and unloading, the legs can lift the vehicle body, keeping the vehicle level and stable, and preventing the vehicle from tilting or overturning due to the weight of the goods.

Adjust height: By raising or lowering the legs, it is possible to adapt to different heights of loading and unloading platforms or the ground, facilitating the loading and unloading operations.

Assist in towing connection: When the tractor and the semi-trailer are connected or separated, the legs can assist in adjusting the height of the vehicle body to ensure that the coupling pin and the towing seat are accurately aligned.

The Landing GearStructure and Type：

(1) Basic Structure
1 Column: The main component that vertically supports the vehicle body, usually made of hollow steel tubes, with a transmission screw inside.
2 Base: The part that contacts the ground, generally made of rectangular or circular steel plates, to increase the supporting area and prevent the legs from sinking into the ground.
3 Transmission Mechanism: Includes screws, gears, handles, etc., driven by manual or electric means to control the lifting and lowering of the column.
4 Locking Device: Used to fix the height of the legs, preventing automatic lifting and lowering due to vibration or other reasons during use.

1. By operation mode classification
2 Manual legs: Achieve lifting and lowering by manually turning the handle, with a simple structure and low cost, commonly used in small and medium-sized semi-trailers.
3 Electric legs: Driven by an electric motor, controlled by buttons or remote controllers, with convenient operation and high efficiency, mostly used in large or high-end semi-trailers.

The Landing Gear Working principle：

Take the manual outriggers as an example:

Rotate the handle, which drives the screw to rotate through the gear transmission. The screw cooperates with the nut inside the column, causing the column to move up and down along the guide sleeve, thereby achieving the elevation of the legs. Once the legs reach the desired height, they are fixed by the locking device to ensure stable support.

Common Faults and Maintenance：

Difficulty in raising/lowering:

Reason: Insufficient lubrication of the screw, rusting, or wear and jamming of the transmission gears.
Maintenance: Clean the screw and apply grease, replace the worn gears or add lubricating oil.

Legs automatically descend:

Reason: The locking device has failed (such as the locking pin is worn out, the spring is loose), or the clearance between the screw and the nut is too large.
Maintenance: Check the locking pin and the spring, replace the damaged parts; adjust or replace the screw and the nut.

Base deformation or cracking:

Reason: Long-term heavy load application or uneven ground causes uneven force distribution.
Maintenance: Replace the new base, ensure the ground is flat during installation, and avoid overloading.

Hydraulic outriggers leaking oil (electric hydraulic type)：

Reason: The hydraulic pipeline interface is loose and the seals are aging.
Maintenance: Tighten the interface or replace the seals, and add hydraulic oil.

The Landing Gear Maintenance Tips：

 Regular lubrication: Apply grease to the transmission components such as screws and gears every quarter to prevent rust and wear.

Inspection of fasteners: Check monthly whether the bolts and nuts at each connection point of the legs are loose and tighten them in time.

Cleaning and maintenance: Clean the dirt and debris on the base and the column after each use to avoid foreign objects affecting the lifting.

Avoid overloading: The load-bearing capacity of the legs is limited. It is strictly prohibited to exceed the rated load to avoid structural damage.

 Storage protection: When the vehicle is parked for a long time, lower the legs to the lowest position and use wooden blocks to support the base to prevent deformation of the base.
